Industry experts predict that some of the pandemic adaptations will be permanent fixtures in the industry. While some have existed for a while, they were embraced and became the norm during the shelter at home orders. These include curbside delivery, contactless service technology for ordering and paying, cloud/ghost kitchens and family styles meals to go. Third-party delivery services also experienced a revival surge in popularity but government agencies have stepped in to regulate fees and lower the maximum allowable commissions that these third-party delivery services can charge. There has also been some consolidation in the third-party delivery industry with mergers and buy-out of some smaller businesses by the industry leaders like DoorDash and GrubHub and UberEats.
