Proposed New Laws Affecting the Alcohol Industry in New York

Sen. Charles Schumer is asking the FDA to prevent PALCOHOL was in error, but that is a labelling issue that can be easily overcome. It looks like the product will be federally approved but several individual states are moving to ban it. New York Sen. Brad Hoylman has introduced a bill to ban the sale of powdered alcohol products in New York and to prohibit anyone under 21 from possessing the powdered alcohol.

New York State Sen. Joseph Robach of Rochester proposed a bill that was passed by the state senate to require blood-alcohol tests of all drivers following serious accidents in which someone is seriously injured or killed. Currently, police may only test a person’s blood-alcohol level if they suspect they are over the legal limit for alcohol. The bill now moves to the State Assembly.
