Congratulations to Jon Bonavilla for making The Daily Record’s “Power 20 Personal Injury 2021” list!
In a recent interview with the NY Daily Record, Jon was asked the following questions:
What do you enjoy most about practicing personal injury law?
From a professional standpoint, the issues that arise in personal injury law are always fascinating in terms of theories of liability and damages. From a personal standpoint, there is nothing more rewarding than recovering compensation for a seriously injured client. It is always gratifying to reach the end of a case and be thanked by a client who now has the means to start rebuilding his or her life and begin putting what is often a very traumatic experience behind them.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve dealt with over the past year?
Certainly the pandemic has changed the way most attorneys practice law and that has been an unequivocal challenge. I think there have been some positive time-saving aspects to the changes (more virtual conferences with the court and attorneys; a greater reliance on emails), but overall it has been challenging to effectively litigate a case where in-person meetings, depositions and trials are not an option.
What do you see as the biggest changes in the legal industry in the next 3-5 years?
I expect there will continue to be an ever-growing reliance on the internet and online communications. We have seen this already with e-filings, online legal forms, virtual conferences and paperless files. Changes that make the practice of law more efficient are always welcome, but how the legal profession adapts in order to continue facilitating a positive, trusting relationship with clients and the public will be interesting.
